I'm the guy whose head (cylinder) had a crack that showed up in an
exhaust port during a pressure check. Rather than (for the moment)
purchase a new Peugeot head for $1200 or a spanish aftermarket for $750
I opted for a used $125 + shipping head from a wrecker in Portland,
Oregon.
The head arrived looking okay aside from a couple of busted water pump
studs to challenge my "easy out" abilities ("easy out," what a
misnomer).
I have a caliper and made what I thought to be an accurate measurement
of the head's current thickness. I came up with 92mm. The good book
says the original thickness is 92.5mm and the allowable is 91.85mm.
My question's are (and this is assuming that the head will pass a
pressure test) 1) simply whether a machinist can take off no more than
.15mm and, if the head will then be useable and 2) is there an internet
site that lists metric to standard conversions?
Thanks,
Ken
