[Peugeot-L] A little knocking in the front

Hi, this is Raminder from India. I have a 1991 405 still running completely on the factory fitted suspension. Its was slightly noisy (knocks and rumble on bad stretches of road), but still a very comfortable ride. Because the ride was still good, I have been putting off getting the suspension fixed for past two years. Also, I didn't have a second car to use.

A few months back I bought a 309, so last week I started getting the 405 suspension done up. Imagine my surprise when I saw the state of the suspension. ALL the front suspension bushes were absolutely shot, as also both the lower ball joints and track rod ends. The right front strut was fine on its way up, but gave absolutely no resistance on its way down. The left front strut was exactly the opposite - fine on its way down but 'free' when you pull it out. The only components still working fine were the two strut bearings.

I have now managed to get all the required parts from Delhi, all the parts required for a COMPLETE suspension overhaul (Including original Peugeot front struts). and I should have a car with me in the next couple of days. The reason why I am posting this is that I am really amazed that the car had such a good ride and handling inspite of every suspension component being in such a bad state. It was only the 'noise' that was bothering me :-)

I used to like Peugeots till now, but now this has changed into immense respect. There is definitely something very very special with Peugeot suspensions. Can't wait to see how it will ride after the suspension is all done up...
