Subject: [Peugeot-L] 1991 405 S will not stay running
Hi Guys,
I am having a problem with my 91 405 S. Earlier last week, the car
stalled twice on a very short trip. (Less then half a mile.) It
would crank normally, start, then die right away. After several
attempts at starting, it would start like nothing was ever wrong
with it. Then I drove it all weekend, maybe total of 150 miles, and
it drove without a problem. Then this morning, while trying to drive
to work, it stalled, would not restart, but this time, not even
catch for a few seconds. Then it did start, again, as if nothing was
ever wrong with it. Then while trying to get on the highway, it
jerked, or bucked and continued to the entire trip to work. It would
behave for a few miles, then act really bad for one, then behave,
etc. It felt like the injectors where being shut down then turned
back on quickly. It does not feel like it is running out of fuel,
because the restart and power increase is instant. The check engine
light would come on, and I have not pulled codes yet. (It is still
at work, and am awaiting the tow truck to bring it home as I type
this.) When I tried to go home, it was back to crank, run for a few
seconds, then die. My thoughts are: A) a bad crank sensor B) Bad air
flow sensor, although I did have codes for this a few months ago and
replaced it with a good used one. C) Timing belt stretched causing
the timing to change. D) the ECU is bad. (The ECU was drentched a
few months ago because water somehow found its way into the
container that holds it. I dried it out but did notice some
corrosion on the circuit board.) Does anyone have any thoughts on
what I should be looking at. I know the codes will help leed me to
the answer (I hope!) but has anyone ever had something like this
happen. Any help would be apreciated!
Thanks, John
