Ok, so I pulled the codes today. Had 5 or six codes. So I cleared
them and attempted to drive it. Got a block away and the light came
on. Pulled a code - 52 - try another ECU. I had an ECU for an 89,
and although I know I should not have done this, I pluged it in and
the car ran fine. (I unpluged the idle control device.) So I drove
it around for a while, maybe 40 miles or so. Check Engine light came
on, checked the codes, 52 - try another ECU. Kept driving it to see
what would happen, because it was running fine. The car stalled,
would not restart, changed back the 91 ECU and it started right up!
Drove around for a while, maybe another 40 miles, Light came on
again, code 52 - try another ECU and 33 - Air flow meter. I cleared
the codes, and it was fine the rest of the night. Any ideas?? Also,
am I damaging anything by running the wrong ECU in the car? Another
list member offered me a used one for a reasonable price, but A) I
am not sure that is really the problem and B) if it is, I would
really like to wait a few weeks, as I am still recovering for
Christmas bills. Any thoughts or ideas??
Thanks,
John
