Long before cars, when people still used horses and wagons, it was common to use the left side of the road as they do in England to this day. When a certain guy named Napoleon conquered most of Europe, just to be different than his enemies, the British, he declared that people use the right side of the road in all countries under his rule. Also, before cars, rich people would pack up their belongings and take a long trip around Europe in their fancy carriages. This was called a "grand tour", and is how the term GT or grand touring began to be used for cars that were designed to cover long distances quickly and comfortably.

That, and it's a ZDJL.
I was wondering one day about why countries drive on different sides of the road. I
thought it might be a protectionism thing- French vs. English cars, or something, but I
didn't know. So I googled it, and found out that it all started centuries ago. Some were
surmising that it had to do when people carried swords around. Weird.
