I don't know of any professional who would even consider buying new starters or alternators. Why pay for bodies and other things that don't cause any problems? If you can't find already rebuilt items, you could have an electric shop rebuild your old alternator or starter. You need to ask why these guys insist on brand new parts ( or maybe just brand new prices ), and you need to insist back that rebuilt is what you want.
