[Peugeot-L] Re: Futility of owning a Peugeot in US

Mitsubishi is a b grade Japanese manufacturer. Nevertheless, I would wager that its cars are more troublefree than anything that Peugeot, Volkswagen or Fiat produce. The fact is that you can drive a Honda or Toyota and maybe a Nissan 200,000 miles without anything of note going wrong with them. If Mitsubishi is so bad, how come Peugeot will be using a Mitsubishi SUV as a badged engineered Peugeot? On a personal note, my little Mazda Miata has 131,000 miles on it and the only thing that has gone wrong with it is that a tensioner bolt for the A/C belt fell out. That's it.

In my view, European manufacturers such as Peugeot and Fiat are the GMs and Fords of Europe. The Asians manufacturers are eating away at their market share, and it has become quite noticeable in the last 12 months. European consumers aren't as obsessed with reliability as American consumers are, but they do like style and refinement. The Japanese are designing cars for the European market - small cars which are just as refined as anything the mainstream European manufacturers produce - and they are reliable. I'd take the latest Honda Civic over any small Peugeot any day. Unless Peugeot improves the quality and reliability of its product, as well as the after sales service, in my view it will be in real trouble in its home turf - Europe - in five to 10 years from now.

End of rant.
