[Peugeot-L] Mi16 Smoke Reversed battery??

Update on the Mi16 burnt wiring

I bought the car but I haven't seen it yet. The eBay seller was a little evasive about whether or not the battery was hooked up backwards. A friend in MO picked up the car and under my tutelage has removed the intake manifold and examined the wiring. It seems that the power wire from the alternator to the starter solenoid rubbed against something near the starter and shorted out.
In the process burning the idle speed control motor wires, the oil pressure wire and the wires to the injectors. The damage seems to be limited to these wires and perhaps the alternator. I have sent my friend all the stuff for the fix including an alternator and a starter. Hopefully I'll have good news soon.

I'm not sure it could have been hooked up backwards and then had a start attempted. Usually, there is so much sparking going on that I can't believe someone would have succeeded in actually hooking it up. Alot of new cars have fusible links or something similar in line with the main positive cable not far from the battery. Trace the cable and see if you have something like that; and if you do, thank God for smart engineers. If they don't, I would worry most about the alternator and ECU.
