Re: [Peugeot-L] XD90 head gasket compatability

XD90 and XD2 head gaskets do not interchange. But '78 and '80 diesels are both XD2s-- their gaskets are the same. BUT xd2 gaskets come in different thicknesses to compensate for different amounts of piston standout from the top of the block. If the pistons stand out less than .032" you use a 2-notch gasket; if more than .032" you use a 3-notch. That does NOT change if the head is machined. About 90% of engines take a 2-notch gasket, yet most gaskets sold are 3-notch, perhaps helping to explain why many of our diesels are smmoky, hard to start, low on power, and don't get the fuel mileage they should.
