I recently went on a "hunt and seek" on the turbo. It started out as
a little glitch in the form of a miss. The next day, it progressed
into a "let's miss for about five minutes", then go away.
Then it came back, to stay. I gotta say, it took some digging, but I
finally found the problem, after ruling out all the simple stuff. The
upside is that the 804 injectors and cooler plugs are in place. as
well as new plugs, cap, wires, fuel filter, on and on.
The funny thing was, I had already checked the AFM via the pinouts on
the ecu, but that was just a spot check- where I read the ohms with
the flap closed, and it was cool. Working by myself, I then put a
screwdriver in to vary the flap. Checked again, and all was cool.
Later, as I was double-checking everything, I took the AFM off, and
bench tested it. It was whacked!
I don't remember any AFM's taking a dump on the list, but after 20
years, anything is possible. I know Volvos had a big problem with
them in the 80's.
What a feeling to have my baby idle smoothly, and to have that get up
and go again!
Now I just need to find a metric thread chaser for the wastegage
adjuster. I mean, to turn up the boost. Ah, metric frusrations..
