I bought an XD3T that after running it would push water into one of the cylinders
It would push in so much water that the ctlinder would hydro lock
I would turn the engine slowly past the bump then it would start
If I removed the rad cap the water wouldn't migrate past the head gasket

The notches have to do with the thicness of gasket to compensate for the amount the pistons are protruding, the head is completely flat, resurfacing it is not going to change anything, the valve seats do need to be ground down the same amount though.
I've gone through about 3 head gaskets on my XD2S diesel over the
years. I've never seen coolant make into the combustion chamber. I
think the pressures are too high for that. I've always had it leak near
the left rear of the head. For some reason my gasket leaks start
there. So, most likely you just have to change the head gasket. Make
sure to get the right type, you can tell by the notches near the rear
right of the gasket. The notch system is to compensate for differences
in head thickness after planing. Be sure to have your head
checked...the cylinder head, by a machine shop for warpage and cracks.
