OnHello group,
My newish '89 405 Mi16 is still having idling issues. At any
throttle over idle, it runs and drives great! However, when left to
idle on it's own, it idles slowly (about 700 RPM), and it surges,
shakes, and seems like it's on 2 or 3 cylinders.
So far, I have replaced the plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. From
my good running 405, I have substituted the entire airbox assembly,
the idle control valve, and the coil, all to no avail.
A listmemeber suggested to me to check the fuel pressure regulator
on the fuel rail. I did this by pulling the hose off to check for
leaking fuel and there was none. I replaced the hose, and applied
vacuum to it with my Mityvac while the car was running. There was
definately a difference between no vacuum and full vacuum, and the
regulator held vacuum, but it ran horribly either way.
I also checked the compression and all cylinders are within 10 PSI
of 200 PSI. I should also point out that the Check Engine light does
Onnot come on while it's running bad, but the light does work (lights
when I'm cranking).
Does anyone please have a suggestion as to what I should check next?
OnI need to get this car smogged to get the title transferred,
otherwise I have to non-op it. Thanks in advance!
