A buddy just e-mailed me from Kenya. While in an auto parts store,
someone came in and bought a 404 Peugeot front fender and front
subframe panel (buttress, in the book). He said a very small amount of
money changed hands. Incidentally, the general procedure there is to
take your broken part to the parts store, and they match it(no
computers and very few books). There are still loads of 404s still
running there, and while they sell new cars there, they've gotten a
pretty bad name over the past 20 years, with the Japanese cars taking
over most of that market. At least this is what they've told my friend.
Maybe Peugeot should try a "retro" car like Chrysler did with the PT
Cruiser, Ford withe the T-bird, and the Chevy HHR? I kind of miss
seeing tail fins these days, and the folks in Africa would buy anything
like a 404.
