I switched the seat covers from the passenger side to the drivers side and
vice verse. It is some amount of work:
Remove both seats. The rear inner bolts on each seat go through a
reinforcement under the car, so you will have to remove the nuts on these
from the bottom before attempting to remove the bolts from inside the car.
Be sure to unplug the wires first.
Pull off the handle for the lumbar support.
Remove the leather covers step by step. You will find hog rings holding the
covers to various parts of the seat frames. Two pliers are required to
unbend these. Keep track of the order. I wish I had had a digital camera
to record the stages so I could remember which part of the frame each flap
on the cover was fastened to.
When you switch the covers, you will have to add a hole for the lumbar
support shaft and lever on each cover. Install the back covers, then cut
the hole with a razor blade or knife where you feel the shaft. You will be
left with an open hole on the door side of each relocated cover. If they
bother you, patch them before installing the covers. It is also a good idea
to sew up any seams that have opened before you install the covers. Do this
with a heavy duty needle and thread from the back side, with the cover
turned inside out.
You will need hog rings and a hog ring pliers to re-install the covers.
This can be purchased at a hardware store. I ended up with slightly larger
hog rings than the original because that is what was available.
Hope this helps. When I got my 87 in 1990, with only 30,000 miles, the
drivers seat was badly worn, and the seam torn, where the driver rubbed
against the back bolster when entering and leaving. 200,000 miles later, my
drivers seat has some wear on the cushion, but the bolster is still ok.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] Seat questions - 505
Hey guys.
After reading about the mint 505's, it is time to redirect our attention to
the non-mint types! As pretty much every 505 I have seen at the scrapper
and in person has badly ripped drivers side seats I was wondering what can
be done to improve them a bit.
First, I seem to recall someone mentioning that you may be able to swap the
seat bottom from the passenger side. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone ever
done it before? Am I crazy?
secondly, if that doesn't work - I was thinking of just getting the leather
off a passenger seat and sewing in the good swaths of leather. Is this a
ridiculouos amount of work and has anyone attempted this before? I once
sewed the seats on my saab back together and though it was a lot of trouble,
the results were quite good.
more questions to follow...
good day.
