I have a dolly that I use with my XD2S 5 spd sedan
I have towed a 505 SW auto 1100 mi with no trouble
I removed the drive shaft from the SW to prevent trans destruction
I started off towing the SW backwards THIS DOES NOT WORK
The whole deal was totally unstable at anything approaching 50 mph
After 200 mi I pull the driveshaft
Towing the SW with the rear wheels on the ground was a piece of cake
If the car you bought is a 5 spd then just make sure that the trans and diff
are full of lube
You can tow them with the rear or all wheels on the ground
All states have weight limits as to how much can be towed without brakes
Some states require that the towed vehicle be insured even if it is on a dolly
If it is being towed with a rope or chain for sure it must be insured
If it is an automatic then you will destroy the trans towing it for anything more than a
short distance even with overfilling the trans
If you can get the motor running and leave it idling for the trip the trans will
lube itself in neutral and you can tow it with the rear wheels on the grond as far as
you want. Either on a towbar, dolly or rope.
An automatic sedan is the easiest to pull the driveshaft out of.
Pull the spare tire carrier and the diff will pull far enough back (on the axles) from the torque tube
that you can pull the driveshaft out. Bolt the diff back and fill it.
You cannot run the engine because the trans oill will go down the torque tube
Rope towing is stressful especially if you have no power steering or brakes or heat
Tow bars work well but you have no brakes on the rear 3000 lb so you have to
do all your slowing down early and in a straight line ...don't even think about this
on snow ice or rain
There maybe more...

Subject: [Peugeot-L] Towing Advice Please-PEUGEOT 505
Hey there again folks,
I bought a wrecked 505 off of ebay for parts. Guy said it was running
but I cant count on that. I was wondering if it is possible to tow it
about 6-7 hours with another 505. I can't afford a mover and I can't
find a rental truck around here. I have an 89 505S 2.2 4cyl in good
running condition. I was thinking the following:
Snugly attach other car tobackof mine using big chains. "Pad" the
back bumper with cardboard. Attach chains to frame and tighten.
If brakes are working on car, attach chain to my peugeot and have a
friend in the towed car to brake when I do.
I have a friend with a 91 izuzu 4cyl std. truck with a hitch, get a
towing bar or dolly and pull car with that.
Any opinions on what would be the cheapest and safest?
Thanks
