You have a 86 505 SW with a XD3T engine and have fitted a 5 spd trans
the existing 4.11 gears make the engine scream at probably 60 mph
The 4.11 was standard in the XN6 3 spd auto SW and and 3 spd auto STi.
As it was in the 86 SW XD3T 4 spd auto
You have 2 easy options (replacing the diff with an existing SW diff)
to bring your engine speed down.
The XD2S 83-85 TD 3 spd auto SW uses the same diff gears as the
5 spd TD sedan "P" gears which are 13 X 45 or 3.462 to 1.
or
The XN6 5 spd SW uses "K" gears ...9 X 35 or 3.889
It is possible to put any gears in the SW diff
in fact you can take the guts out of a sedan diff and put it in a SW diff
housing.
There are 3 gear sets available less than the P = 3.462.....Q = 3.182, R =
3.308,
S = 3.077, and T = 2.867
I don't know if the Q, R, or S gears are available but the T gears were used
in the
TD sedans with the 3 speed auto.
I think your best easiest bet is the P gears which I happen to have on the
shelf in
a SW diff.
You can also improve your final drive with bigger tires, the 86 SW as I
remember was
supposed to use 185/70R14s this size sucks on a car this size
Use at least 205/60R15 or 205/70R15 (thye SUV look alike option) or
205/70R14
or 205/65R15
