Which always puzzled me. There were plenty of good Peugeot diesels to
choose from, and Volvo took the [vw] V6 instead.

im sure that was a typo. ure too well informed. not V6, maybe VW 6-- it was a STR8 6, six cylinders inline, the volkswagon six cylinder diesel that volvo unfortunately used from the 1970s. a few minor suspension changes at the front of the 240 were needed.
