I run the standard tranny oil called for in the manual. I have not had
this problem in Vermont. However, I am aware that shifter linkages can
cause problems as well as the transmission itself. I have a balky 3rd
gear from time to time in the '91, but that transmission basically
works very nicely indeed. The '92 has worked well too. I do let both
warm up a bit before rolling out.
I'd say changing the oil is a reasonable place to start, but I'd choose
to use basic transmission oil until I found out what was really going
on.
