Actually, the situation is a little hard to figure out, but I have to apologize for one thing--I am definitely wrong on the date of the change, which was not 85 but mid-82. There is only one replacement crankshaft, because it comes with matching bearings, so evidently the late crank and bearings will work in the early block at least. The early crank has removable sludge plugs, and fully grooved main bearings #1, 3, and 5. The later crank without the plugs has all bearings grooved on the upper shell only. '86 blocks are different from earlier ones, but because of the deeper headbolt holes, not crankshaft oiling.
