Stefan, though I am Canadian, I know a little about this. Basically you are free to import a non-conforming car as a tourist for a period of up to one year (IIRC), at which point it must be exported or scrapped.

As far as permanently importing a 307CC, forget it. The only way to do that would be to get a company like G&K in California to convert the car to meet US standards. Since that would involve lots of bespoke engineering, the costs would be staggering. They might even have to crash one for the NHTSA....do you fancy a $100K 307CC?

The only "no strings attached" imports would be 25+ year old cars. In Canada this figure is 15+ years.

Even if you did get a 307CC here as a temporary import, you would have to go to Mexico to get specialised service. Parts might be ordered through one of the very few remaining Peugeot parts outlets (there are no more dealers and haven't been since 1991). Specifically related to the roof, if you are having problems over there with it, you would be on your own here should it act up. I know the 206CC has a dreadfully unreliable roof mechanism, but I thought the 307CC had a better one (Heuliez?).

In summary, it is a very bleak prospect. The best solution is to sell the 307CC and get something similar over here (e.g. a used Benz SLK). Mike Tippett
