With so many european manufacturers now tied to american auto makers,
eg Saab/GM, Volvo/Ford, Opel/GM (i think) Jaguar/Ford, etc., what I
wonder is why there is not a push for a common safety and smog standard
for these and other areas. We all know that the economics of selling
cars back and forth changes with the decades, and with innovation and
retooling, so it would seem to be to everyone's advantage to advocate
for a common standard. If they can pass in the US, they pass in Europe
and visa versa. Consolidation of enterprise might finally make that a
possibility. If it were to happen, I would think that PSA-Citroen
would have reason to reconsider being over here.
If they were to come, I still think the Citroen models have the most
visual appeal to this market, and the best cachet in the marque. People
still remember that those are the hydraulic cars, When I talk to people
about it, I discuss the assembly of the shock tower spheres and
describe them as really the first gas shocks.
