This just makes me remember something about brake fluid. I'm not sure if any of you know that older British cars had to have Castrol brake fluid or their seals would deteriorate rapidly. Well, some of my mechanic friends and I have found out that most European cars' brake systems have less problems with Castrol or ATE fluid. ATE is more difficult to find, although I think what BMW sells at the dealer might be ATE, but Castrol is fine. We will not use regular brands. It may have something to do with the European brands using more real rubber than synthetics like us and the Japanese.

replacements for the 404 Automatique.
I've gleaned from prior postings that the worm gear differential
should take castor based gear oil, and the USA choice is Blendzall
Green label 460 to replace Castrol R60. Any opinion on length of
time beteween fluid replacements?
It also appears by consensus that the brake fluid to replace
Lockheed 55 should be DOT 3.
What I have NOT been able to determine thus far is the replacement
Auto transmission fluid for Shell "Donax". I've looked at BMW sites
as well, as it appears that contemporary BMW 2002 autos also share
the ZF 3HP12 transmission. I happen to have a client who is a sales
rep for Shell lubricants, and alhough she was looking into it did
not know the correct superceding product
Any thoughts?
