No, most multiplex systems involve some type of active bus that is resistant to faults like that. Plus, the argument of cable damage is not significant. There are many wires in older non-muxed systems where a even single wire break will cause engine failure.

The main issue at hand is a malfunction on the bus somewhere, such as the power window switch getting coffee spilled in it and deciding to flood the bus with garbage.
