Funny you should mention that.
My 2005 smart fortwo cdi cabriolet - like all CDN market smarts - did
not have a fog light option due to the turn signals being relocated
there for Canada.
The fortwo is a fully multiplexed car, with a SAM (Signal And
evaluation Module) among other computer brains, among which are a
controller for the ESP/ABS, electronig gear shifting and clutch
actuation, as well as the common-rail engine management computer.
Oddly enough, the retrofitting of EU market foglights to this car was
as simple as child's play - the car was all pre-wired for them, the
relay was already fitted and it was literaly plug-ad-play, no Mercedes-
dealer "TAN Codes" required. Of course, the turn signals had to
be relocated to inside the main headlamp units, which is where they
are in Europe, again, a ten minute job with a soldering iron.
I was pleasantly surprised.
