Re: [Peugeot-L] 1986 505 central locking

I was once helped by a list member (Phil) regarding this problem, so here I am passing along his very valuable information that fixed the problem in my 505.

I suspect that your problem is actually inside the box. Sounds like a cold solder joint. (common) The act of messing with the connector is just putting stress on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and causing it to make or break the bad connection. The little male connector blades have no mechanical mount to the PCB other than by solder, so eventually with thermal cycling and vibration they will fail. This is yet another example of Peugeot's (or their suppliers) electrical engineering blunders. They design a good circuit, but have little regard for the mechanical systems that make the electronics work.

That connector is the same style as the "problematic" connectors under the hood, but the underdash location is devoid of water and the other elements, so it is reliable. (unless you somehow got water under your dash!)

Here are some pictures I took of one the units I had inside and out: http://mindfart.com/peugeot/centrallockbox/

The lock plunger comes up when the key is turned, but the lock button won't stay up, nor can I open the drivers door. Have any of you Peugeot owners
had to fix this before? Any advice would be appreciated. It is a very nice car with only 53k miles. The folks at work think I'm a loon for driving an old French car, I'd hate for them to see me getting in or out of the passenger side door!!:) Thank you, Chris
