Kevin,

Yahoo does a very good job of preventing the harvesting of their email addresses by spammers. How do I know this? I have one address used primarily for posting and receiving to the 6 Yahoo groups I belong to, the other is used for other miscellaneous mail. The one I use for Yahoo receives on average one spam a month, the other receives about 15 per week. Both addresses are about 3 years old.

So of course I am having trouble reconciling my Yahoo experience with yours, I use a Dell PC not a Mac, there must be other things going on here we're not taking into account.
