BELOW ARE POSTINGS I HAVE FROM 2 SITE IN THE UK ONE SPECIALISES IN THE 206 THE OTHER IN EUROPEAN PEUGEOTS. I HAVE POSTED BOTH ADDRESSES BEFORE SO THEY WILL BE IN THE ARCHIVES HAD YOU SEARCHED FOR THEM.
I moved out of modern Peugeots due to the reliability problems I have seen reported on 307, some issues I have seen on my wifes 206 and a disappointing brush with a dealer and 407 when I test drove it.
I do not know the answer to your problem but the 206 info exchange may have more idea. But it sounds serious enough to go to the dealer.
