OnHey guys,
OnAfter a few weeks of working on my new 405 Mi16's rough idle, I'm
about to throw in the towel and take it somewhere. Several helpful
listmembers have suggested various things to check, but I've done
all I know how to do. The deal is that the car runs pretty darn good
at speed. But at idle, it runs real rough, like it's on 2 or 3
cylinders. It also pings at high engine speeds if I'm hard on the
gas. Because of this, I haven't smogged it yet. Here is what I've
done to the car, if you have any suggestions, please let me know!
New plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. New O2 sensor. The
fuel filter was temporarily eliminated to make sure it wasn't the
problem. I sent out the injectors for cleaning. They came back and
the flow rate/pattern is now perfect, according to the folks who did
them.
>From my good running 405 AND my parts car, I have swapped in the
following parts with no difference. Air box with air flow sensor,
throttle position switch, idle control valve, coil, fuel pump, fuel
pressure regulator.
I purchased a fuel pressure tester. At idle, the fuel pressure is
around 41 PSI. With the regulator unplugged, it goes up to 44. At
part throttle, the fuel pressure is 35 PSI.
If there are any last things I should check before I give up, please
let me know! There's usually not much I can't fix on cars, but this
one has me stumped. If I can't get her running this weekend, I'm
going to take it to Cerrone's European (right near my work
fortunately) during the week. If it comes down to that, I guess I'll
just have to lie back and think about England and hope the bill
isn't too high! Thanks all!
