[Peugeot-L] 405 crankshaft pulley options?

OnHey guys,

When working on the timing belt of my grey Mi16, I noticed that the crankshaft pulley is beginning to spin around it's mounting point. My other 405 did this once, and the belt stopped turning completely. I went to the movies, then drove home at 2AM with no headlites 'cause I had barely enough juice in the battery to fire the plugs!

So anyway to avoid this happening again, I'm going to need to buy a new pulley. W. Hemispheres has them for a little over $250. I don't mind paying that if that's what I gotta do, but I was wondering if there is an alternative to the OEM part? Are we certain that the rubber damper is necessary? I'm not sure what a harmonic balancer does, but if it's not needed, I'll just weld the outer to the inner and call it good. Thanks! Received on Mon Feb 18 12:08:02 2008
