I just thought I would pass this on, in case it happens to someone
else.
I was fiddling under the hood, and I was resetting everything (505
turbo) . At one point, I had taken the ignition relay out to clean the
contacts. As I was replacing it, I noticed that the one wire was
pulling out as I was pushing in with the relay. So I kinda held it
such that I was holding the wire where it goes into the relay holder,
to keep it from pushing out (quick and dirty).
It turned out that two of the wires were doing it, as now I had an
engine miss, as evidenced from feeling the tailpipe. I figured that
the miss was something that I did.
The plastic tabs that hold the terminals in the block can break
free, allowing this to happen, which on a 20-year-old car, anything is
possible.
I ended up taking that worn black plastic block off (small hacksaw),
and pushing each individual terminal, one at a time, onto the relay,
securely. I didn't have to rewire anything, but I was careful as to
where the wires went on the relay, and labeled them as such.
I suppose I could have bought a new relay connector, and I can still
do that, but for now, it is fine.
Then I had to fashion a new hanger.
