First car out of college was a '64-1/2 Mustang convertible. My brother was swapping the engine from his MGB into an Elva around that time and must've spilled some car dust on me. One year and 29,000 miles later, I traded the Mustang for a Volvo P1800. Two years and 60,000 miles later I traded for an Intermeccanica Torino ('67). I actually know where that car is today, almost completely original - 40,000 miles and worth approx. $1 per mile. Let me pause while I shed a tear.
More practical cars followed over the years: Opel GT, Lancia Beta coupe, Fiat P3, two Alfettas, two Fieros. Bought the wife an '85 505 Turbo; I ended up buying myself an '89 Mi16 which was good for about 8 years and 256,000 miles. Traded it for a '91 Mi16 which had 253,000 when traded for a "newer" '91 Mi16, currently my almost-pristine summer daily-driver (only TWO door dings!). Also had an S wagon along the way which died last year with an estimated 250,000 miles. It's been replaced by another S wagon.
And my brother is still restoring MGBs.
