My first Peugeot was a 1981 504 Diesel Wagon I bought 10 years ago with a blown motor. Found a replacement engine and the car ran great until the rocker panels rusted away a few years later. Loved the room, ride, comfortable seats, styling, etc. Hated the pumpkin colored vinyl seats (did they all come that color?) and screaming engine rpms on the highway with the 3-spd auto.

Presently own a 1987 505 Liberte Wagon. It's cost more in repairs in the past 10 years than buying a new Japanese economy car but who else makes a rear wheel drive wagon that gets decent mileage, rides great, handles well, still looks good (nice job Pininfarina) and hauls 1/2 ton of cargo or a 4x8 sheet of plywood with the gate closed(!). It's really a remarkable car. I bought Euro-style headlights for it on a recent trip to Thailand where I teach English 3 months out of the year. Lots of 505s in Thailand, no wagons.

Other cars I've owned and loved: 1970 Jaguar XKE coupe. 1971 Porsche 911E, 1978 Pontiac Trans Am, 1989 VW GTI, Mazda RX-7 turbo, Miata.

PS Many times watching the news I'll see clips from the Middle East with old Peugeots in the background, Egypt, Beirut, etc. but not Iraq. Never imported?
