[Peugeot-L] Re: Peugeot reliability and cost of repairs
Dan:
Thanks for posting the warranty claims information. It is
interesting, but has absolutely nothing to do with reliability. A
Subaru is going to be more expensive than a Peugeot to fix in the UK,
but probability is the Subaru will actually get out the warranty
period and much further without much going wrong with wrong with it;
I couldn't make the same claim with confidence about a Peugeot. Let's
use a US example: A Dodge Neon (which is not a very good car) is
cheaper to fix than a Toyota Corolla. Chrysler uses cheaper parts
than Toyota does. So the Neon is usually cheaper to repair. Most
Corollas will get out of the warranty period without anything going
wrong. Getting a Neon out of the warranty period without anything
going wrong is a crapshoot. Chrysler has a much higher rate of
warranty claims than Toyota does.
The fact is that the Japanese are the only mass volume auto
manufacturers who can almost consistently design and build an entire
model range of cars that can go 150K to 175K miles without nothing of
note going wrong with them.

Meanwhile, engine trouble is costing a worrying £660.85 on average to
fix - with the most frequent repair being to the cylinder head (7.6%
of all claims) costing around £517.

bill can be expensive," explains Duncan McClure-Fisher, Operations
Director of Warranty Direct. "A new engine in a Peugeot 306 can cost
at least £2,400 with more exotic machinery like the Subaru Impreza
leaving you with a £3,000 bill."

1,660,000 cars aged 3 - 5 years old ( just over 26% of the £25.4

Franchised and non-franchised dealers accounted for 92% of these
sales.

on the protection of a good warranty or hope that you've bought a
reliable car. The biggest winner is the garage."
