[Peugeot-L] Off Topic - buying new daily driver...

My wife and I decided to buy a new car for the daily driver/family car. This will take the load off my 505 Turbo which has been the daily driver for the last year. (Started everytime, and an AMAZING winter car with 4 winter tires!)

Our budget is around $20K CDN... Car must satisfy my wife's criteria to be a "green" car, and my criteria to be a car that is something I'll enjoy driving and be comfortable. Wagons are cool - so I want a wagon if possible.

Cars tested and eliminated:
Smart Fortwo - Hated the shift feel and the dynamics of the car during hard braking combined with evasive manoevering. Sorry Mike - just wasn't my kind of car. Needs a proper 5-sp and I'd likely buy one. (Or a better shifting tranny)

Toyota Echo - neat little car but the ride was not up to stuff to be a decent car on the highway. Tried one with TRD springs and the big wheels as well - but it was just too much. Can't expect very much from the size - but I can't justify the cost either.

Toyota Corolla - much better than the Echo - but the comfort was TERRIBLE! Seats worse than portable lawn chairs with even less support. Corolla S had nice seats but then the price was in the $25K mark.

Toyota Matrix - aside from not liking the looks - it's a Corolla and was over $25K with the options I want.

Cars on the list yet to be test driven:
Jetta TDi wagon (low km used are ~$22K)
Mazda 3 wagon (new or low mile used)
Subaru Legacy wagon (new or low mile used) Subary Imprezza wagon (new or low mile used) **Any other suggestions?

The more I drive the newer cars - the more I'm thinking my $20+K is going to be better spent on an older premium car in very nice shape - say and older 3 series wagon, A4 wagon, Subaru Legacy GT wagon or maybe an IS300 wagon.

What I confirmed was while driving the 505 Turbo - I realized just how much I love my car. So far - it's shamed all the $20K car's I've driven in, and held it's own with some pretty premium cars as well.

Best part of the day - went over some railway tracks and my wife looked at me and asked why new cars can't ride as nice as the Peugeot. If I can make a case for a decent fuel efficient Peugeot she'd probably go for that. Now if I could only get a Dangel 505 Turbo diesel imported to Canada for a decent amount! (A 505 Touring car in the same shipment - how'd that happen!)

OnMight have to call Sunset to see how much a restored 504 Wagon with an XD3T fully restored would run me... Now that would be a cool family car...
