Point taken...

I'll be doing lots of research - but I also want to drive one to see if it appeals to me.

I have a feeling our choices will end up being a TDi wagon, or going for a few years older car with more KM and getting a nice wagon like an A4, 3 series wagon, or a Lexus IS300 wagon.

If I'm going to be spending any money on maintaining a car - it damn well better be a nice car that's worth the effort!

Thanks so much for all the responses - it's nice to get all sorts of views and impressions!

No offense intended to anyone especially Ben!

Before anyone buys or recommends a VW TDI, I would suggest some serious research into the problems that they have been having.....there are several.

One of the more serious is that they are prone to clogging up the intake to the extent that the air flow and power are significantly reduced.

The Air Mass Meters are a pattern failure on several VW models including the TDI's. So much so that the VW dealers are selling them for $50 to $75.

Interestingly, if you order one for a TDI you will be quoted about $400. However, if you order one for a gas model (same part number) it will be $50 to $75!!!
