Congrats on the new car. Flat out - it's a good car. That 6 speed a Getrag?

OnWhy I'm down on BMW...

The pluses: Very refined. Got to give them credit for sticking with a formula and massaging it year after year rather than starting fresh every 4-5 years with another "hip" design/platform. A bold and winning strategy that most carmakers don't have the guts to follow. They make a decent inline six. The minuses: Performance. Although decent, that's about it. Sure there's Dinan this and Dinan that, chip* you car, but for all intents and purposes, what you got out of the box is it. They never heard of a turbocharger (in a regular car).

Lastly - they're everywhere. An exclusive Honda Accord.

THAT said, wife mentioned she likes the looks of the Z3 (not Z4). I would rather push her to a 70 Lotus Elan, Alfa or a MGB to be honest. But, I won't dissuade her on the car. If she wants one, we're getting one. Additionally, I expect to join a BMW club when I move - WITH my Peugeot. One thing is they're organized. They're cars to be reckoned with and I wouldn't join unless my Lion could keep up on "fun runs". 250 RWHP verified on a dynojet should do it. If all was correct in the world, Peugeot would be the natural direct competitor to BMW. But we all know how that story went...

Citroens: I'm driven by technology and style. The technology in there - in the spades. That's why I like them. I view it's style as just an interesting distraction I've warmed up to over the years. I do like the SM - in spite of it being a V6. Pretty much guaranteed you won't see yourself coming and going all over town with a Citroen.

Congrats again and have fun with the car! I noticed that the 99 5 series cars are a bargain right now and in their "sweet spot" on devaluation vs newness. Good buy.

Chipping your car*. Replacing a fuel map or modifying it from a "kit on a chip". A common lame practice employed when forced induction isn't possible or affordable. Popular with the American V8 crowd and some imports. The current state of the art for aftermarket third party fuel and electronic ignition control is Australia. Think of it as the Milan of Auto Design for ECUs or Seattle for coffee or San Jose for development work. The world's best ECU houses live here. Autronic, Motronic, Haltech, and a half a dozen I'm not familiar with. The most high end Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans when putting out 600 RWHP+ employ these systems. They are heavily involved in professional racing. Subscribe to autospeed.au and see what the guys that run these business think of "chipping". Plenty of interviews. It's like how could or would Bosch, with its highly advanced FI/Ing systems "ignore" HP gains? And some dude with $200K in assets just comes along with a laptop and "finds" gobs of HP just sitting there? No way.

I'm so not into Citroens it's not even funny. I think the DS, while I admire it as a classic, is fairly ugly....and single spoke steering wheels
just annoy the piss out of me. The 2CX is a joke in my opinion....although
I do admire it for it's ruggedness and classic staying power....neither the
DS or the 2CX are "driver's cars."

That being said, I always really liked the BX 1.9-16 valve, the XM, and the
Xantia. (I LOVE the look of the Xantia). Otherwise, Citroen does nothing
for me. Especially a problematic stepchild like the SM.

And the two 505s won't tow my race car....or lay big smoky burnouts. haha..
