If they actually partially disassembled the cars, then importing as kit
cars is not a scam...it's perfectly legal. There has to be a certain %
built in country. Example, I can buy a Lotus Elise with say...no engine
and interior...then install those when I get the car and register it as a kit.
That's legal.
In Autodelta's case...I think they greased a Customs guy who just let them
in.
Either way, it's stupid for US laws to prevent the personal importation of
anything I want. Selling as a business is one thing, but me as a customer
should be able to buy whatever I want and drive it whereever I want.
Safety? Bah. If safety was REALLY an issue, motorcycles would have been
banned decades ago. This is protectionism at its finest. Rather outdated
protectionism at that.
