I agree Brian, a friend of mine has a 1999 Peugeot Coupe, that was brought in to the US..Based on what information was provided when he purchased the car was false, so now the car sits in a warehouse, as was told that the car will ether have to be distroyed, or exported back out of the country. What a bunch of BS, being closs to Laguna Seca Raceway, I can't tell you how many odd and yes illeagal cars can been seen there at any given time, especially during the vintage races. I know some of these cars are for show and tell and range from new to old, but some sport dealer plates, so they can venture away from the track when their here. So there you have it, individual enthusiast's looking to drive the rare, may just need to get licensed as a dealer. Jeff

If they actually partially disassembled the cars, then importing as kit
cars is not a scam...it's perfectly legal. There has to be a certain %
built in country. Example, I can buy a Lotus Elise with say...no engine
and interior...then install those when I get the car and register it as a kit.
That's legal.
In Autodelta's case...I think they greased a Customs guy who just let them
in.
Either way, it's stupid for US laws to prevent the personal importation of
anything I want. Selling as a business is one thing, but me as a customer
should be able to buy whatever I want and drive it whereever I want.
Safety? Bah. If safety was REALLY an issue, motorcycles would have been
banned decades ago. This is protectionism at its finest. Rather outdated
protectionism at that.
