Impending tax bill forces me to sell the best of my three 505s. With
just 80,000 original miles, this 5 speed gas wagon is sporty, practical
(huge cargo space), and economical (25mpg). Blue velour seats in
pristine condition are the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced in
any car at any price. Peugeot’s famous suspension and steering are in
full evidence. Speed bumps are barely noticeable. At 80K miles, the XN6
engine is just getting broken in. For having just 97hp, the car has
amazing mid-range torque for great highway performance.
AC, power antenna, power windows, cruise control, all in fine working
order. Just passed tough Maryland safety inspection and emissions test.
Religiously serviced by Peugeot specialists. Since September 2003: New
front rotors and pads. New alternator. New front wheel bearings. New
center and rear exhaust pipes. New belts. Recent service to
transmission, gearbox, and cooling system. No fluid leaks or drips.
Interior looks new. Jaunty alloy wheels.
Wagon was owned from 1985 to 2003 by a family that had a Peugeot
dealership. When I bought it in September 2003, it had 69,500 miles on
it. In the last 18 months it’s been driven every day (a total of 11,000
miles) and generally parked inside.
According to original owner, clutch and master cylinder were replaced
at 65,000 miles. Head gasket, struts, and strut housings were replaced
at 60,000. Michelin tires have 65–70 percent of tread.
Known issues: Hazing of paint on hood and roof. Speakers distort at
high volume. Bulb out on one climate-control slide. After running AC
for several hours then turning it off, compressor may not come on again
for an hour or so. Starter motor misses occasionally (1 in 25 tries).
Tailgate wiper timer is noisy. Seat heaters inoperative (disconnected).
Audible fuel pump. One rear door sometimes fails to respond to power
locking. One rust spot under hood behind left headlight.
