The two tips were (thanks, you know who you are). For archival
purposes here is my follow up report.
- If you use premium, let your gas tank run down to about 2-3 gals
and add 6 bottles of dry gas (isopropyl alcohol) to it. Go to
inspection and pass with flying colors. Immediately fill tank with gas
after leaving inspection. If you can have 2 gals of regular in your
tank when you add the alcohol it will be even lower emisions.
- Run a fuel injuector cleaner, Chevron with techron is
great, expensive but really works. Put in a new air filter, new tune
up parts so the spark is as
strong as it can get, drive the car hard to the inspection station so
the cat converter is working as effeciently as possible, and have
them hook it up right away, ...
It turned out to be the oxygen sensor and fouled plugs. Replaced 02
sensor with an S36 02 sensor, four new Bosch plugs and passed with
flying colors.
