That definitely looks like British plates (unless another country used the
same format). The C prefix ties up with it being a 1985.

I have acquired a 1985 305 Auto (gee, I think that gets me half the way to a
full set of #05s!).
It was imported into New Zealand in 1996, but prior to this it presumably
had licence plates with C383AWW on them as this is what is sand blasted into
the windows.
Does anyone have any idea which country uses plates in this format? The
vehicle is a RHD, so I am assuming Australia, England or ???
