[Peugeot-L] Re: Boosting tips & MORE electrical adventures...

Thanks to everyone for the good info on boosting. Much appreciated. I suppose I'll do it the safe way in the future...engine off.

However, notwithstanding your efforts, my saga continues...

This relates to a different (I promise) car (an 84 505 S wagon).

This one now has a bad ignition coil, due to water infiltration, which also caused the coil wire to "short" (a.k.a. to explode) and destroyed (i.e., blew off) the female contact of the ignition coil and severed the coil wire [don't ask how this happened friends...let's just say that it has been a tough electrical week here in my Peugeot world, and just as a "tip" to the few novices aboard...I would humbly suggest avoiding getting overly zealous when washing the 1984 Peugeot 505 wagon engine bay...Geeze O'Pete! - Ka-Boom!].

Question: Will an after-market coil funcion? Or, will it be necessary to use the (Peugeot) Delco - 2-piece ignition coil assembly?

Let's see...my record this week:

  1. One destroyed Alt. (92' 505 wagon) due to jumping a dead car's battery with my "good car" running). Nice effort.
  2. Two depleted batteries (due to same). Autozone says both are bad. Possible? Who knows? But certainly, Spendid!
  3. One exploded ignition coil (84 505 wagon). Marvelous.
  4. Destroyed ignition coil wire (84 505 wagon) due to same. Bonus!

Also, I'm not touching the home circuit box if a breaker trips this week...

Thanks for anyone's input on replacing the alternator on the 84 505 wagon (gas, 1971cc, automatic).
