I think that's very well said, indeed, Mike
.
I didn't really know Bob Countess; he sent me some photos once of a 504 wagon and he did sell me some 604 parts. I was sorry to learn of his passing. It's funny: thanks to the Internet, this is an interesting community of very different people with at least one strong passion in common .
My late father served with the US Army Air Corps in Germany after landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. One of his jobs was rounding up German civilians in various towns and forcing them to watch the Army's film footage of the concentration camps. I don't know anything about Countess's politics, but I do know what indeed happened 70 years ago.
Regardless, I think Mike should have the last word on this.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] Let's bury this thread
Bob Countess held many views on topics ranging from cars to history and
politics. I met Bob briefly when he was passing through Toronto and noted
that while he was a cultured gentlemen in many respects, his views on the
latter two topics were deeply offensive to many, including Coupe404, Don,
others and myself. Having said that, Bob respected the rules of this thread
and did not discuss matters other than Peugeot. I suspect if we were to
examine the lives of every member of this list - or of the human race, for
that manner - we would all be deeply offended by something that everyone of
us has either said, done or thought. That's why we limit our discussion to
cars, and where it is absolutely necessary to acknowledge facts beyond that
topic, we do so with great discretion, like George and Coupe404 have done. I
respect both for their tact.
Let us forgive others so that we may be forgiven ourselves. Bob is no longer
of this world; for those of us of faith, he may well be meeting his maker.
Let those of us who are without sin cast the first stone, and let us try not
to speak ill of the dead. And let us not forget that what binds us together
on this thread is helping each other with our cars.
