[Peugeot-L] Re: 405 STDT 1.9 - UK - smoking - happy :)

I drove car back last night, 70 miles in this condition.. And to some disbelief, it was quickly apparant that main problem was the turbo!

a lot of scraping noises, no boost, and then all of the oil smoke esp. at low speeds, plus an alarming lack of fuel economy..

I am so happy, a turbo second hand should be cheap, and fitting it will be nothing on a headgasket. :)

one question, what turbo is it? My 2 haynes manuals disagree, one (for XUD engines) say possibly a KKK K14 or a garret T2, with a maximum boost of 0.85 psi..
my 405 haynes doesn't give a turbo type, but gives boost at 1.0..

any thoughts?

anyway, thanks for all suggestions, and esp. Roger in California for giving me back the confidence to 'just try and get it home...'
