Ya, the big drop off @ 70 is the "fist in the wind" effect. Wonder what a good undercarriage would do? Toyotas have these plastic panels that bolt into place that serve to smooth the airflow under the cars. This goes back to at least 1985. Don't think of bolting up one of them. They're very custom to each model.

However, someone who could fab plastics could probably come up with something very nice.

I'm still bent out of shape about terrible mileage at "subsonic" speeds.

Here's the latest for the 1988 ZDJL wagon 5 speed which just completed a 600 mile round trip from Toronto, to Ottawa and back, flawlessly.

Actual miles per Imp gal(US gal)

25(21) city
36(30) highway at 60 mph or less
29(25) highway at 70 mph

BTW, the best local price for premium today was $0.90 CAD/liter (I paid more) That works out to about $2.80 USD a US gallon. The bottom line: slowing down makes a huge difference, as drag increases exponentially.

Will try to get some figs for the 86 Turbo wagon shortly.
