Hi everybody;
Just curious about lube in the limited-slip differentials - is it 80-90
weight? And are all limited-slip additives created equal? How much
additive is right? thanks, Tom Woods

When I'm in 5th gear, it's an overdrive. Now, I haven't done a couple
of hundred mile trip, but for city stuff, I can drive the car all day
and never crack 3000 rpm if that's my fancy. Because of some issues, I
pretty much drive rather conservatively. Usually only breaking 3K a
couple of times.
When I say "undercarriage", I mean plastic panels that aid in airflow.
I was looking at the stats, and comparing weight. They were all kicking
our cars butts. :(
Brian White's new 5 series with a V8 is getting no worse mileage. I
don't know if it's considered a tow car in any respect of the word, but
I think he mentioned he'll be towing his slot-Miata around with it.

Koll, have a good look at the Peugeot undercarriage, I can't remember
any sharp flat nose areas facing forward, everything is meant for
airflow. The NA models though are covered with an undercoat which is not
smooth but makes the vehicles last much longer. As to mileage, Peugeots
were always designed as workhorses, at least up to the 505. The low diff
gears don't help high speed mileage but if you look at the owner's
manual, you will see that it is rated to carry and tow more than a
Caprice which in most cases is equipped with a 2.23/1 diff ratio while
most of our cars have 3.73/1 to 4.53/1 final ratios . If you look at the
latest stats on newer vehicles of the same size, you'll find that the
older Peugeots are getting the same, if not better mileage, and I
thought they were getting better. Mike Aube

Ok, several months back I wanted to show people my Peugeots for sale.
Well, finally, I got these albums off private mode, hence why I had
troubles with people not being able to see them
The photos are on yahoo.com under user name pearcehall.
Let me know what you all think!

I've always wondered why a 2.0 liter(!) 4 cylinder should get 6 (or even 8)
cylinder gas mileage. Granted, my '87 wagon with 4-spd auto (and lock-up
Ontorque converter) weighs around 3500 pounds but still...
I don't even know what my MPG is 'cause my odometer is broken, of course.
Still love the car though...

Gas mileage is not a direct function of engine size, but of power required
and eficiency.
Best fuel efficiency is with a light car, low resistance and properly sized
engine.
As for driving for best fuel efficiency, always remember that minimizing
braking minimizes fuel consumption. If you drive in a way that you avoid
braking as much as possible, you are driving using as litle fuel as possible
also...

Thats the way we measure it where I live. My 405 SR gets 8.5 kilometers
per liter using that method. City. Highway is more like 12k/l.

I will add a note here for better MPG:
* Synthetic oil. (Lower weight oil get better mpg such as 0W-30 vs.15-50,
but our higher mileage engines probably need the latter.)
* MiCHELIN MXV4 ENERGY tires. SUPER low rolling resistance.
* Regardless of the tire, keep that pressure up...can use 5 psi over what
the sticker says.
* Clean air filter. (But where does one buy one for a Pug?)
* Good spark plugs. (Everyone has their favorites, but I like BOSCHE
multi-electrode). This is not expensive...some are what...a buck each on
sale?
* Buy your gas in the MORNING when it is cold...you get more gas that way.
It expands with the heat of the day.
There are others, but I'm stopping here. Someone else can pick it up from
this point.

I seem to get about 20 mpg city and 22 at 60 to 70 mph (possibly one or two
mpg less with the A/C in 100°f Georgia summertime) with our TWO ZDJL SW8
cars.
I'm about ready to get some batteries in our commutacar for city driving.

I drove by the old location of Nelson Peugeot/Chevrolet in Seattle today
and the Peugeot sign was gone- it's now a Nissan dealer (with no class).
Re: gas mileage again. I'm in total agreement about the inaccuracy of
the instrument cluster on my 505- I think I've avoided speeding tickets
because the speedometer is 5-7% fast. On the other hand when it pleases
me I like to believe the speed indicated. These cars provide something
for all the senses.

I saw an old thread about turning those workshop manuals into PDF

If not how can I get them? It'd be great if someone would make a copy,
I'd pay for the copying and shipping.

Here diesel is about 80 to 98 cents per litre, and gasoline is about 70 to
98 cents per litre (depending where you fill up), so I guess that's not too
bad then.
PS I get about 850km to the tank, so that's not too bad

I can send it to you by email but it is large. In fact, I have divided it

I dont have any connection to this person or car! Contact John direct by
phone or email.
===========
Thank you, Steffen. Yes, I did realize that it was a long way to Richmond
and (also) that 604 owners are likely very few and far bewteen in the USA.
The elderly owner passed away recently and the widow is getting rid of his
eclectic collection of old cars. Before this one goes to the local
foreign car
salvage yard, perhaps some other 604 owners might like to know of its
existence. Any help that you could offer will be appreciated. The best
way to reach
me is this way, but my home telephone number is: 325/437-2247. That
number
is used by my dial-up modem. So, as a result, it is nearly constantly
"busy".
The leather interior is pretty much "cooked" thanks to too many summers in
the West Texas heat. However, all the exterior sheet metal is vey nice,
and
the car appears 100% complete. I can get a more complete assessment of
the
car's condition, including pics, to any interested parties.
Once again, thank you for the offer to help.
Sincerely,
John

P.S. If I didn't mention it before, my sister owns two 1987 505s, and just
loves them. Both have the same bright red orange paint color and are, in
my
opinion, just a dream to drive. One is a turbo 5-speed
sedan and the other is an automatic station wagon.
