Hi-
Recently my 505 V6 has developed an intermittent
problem with its idle speed. Sometimes when driving,
the car refuses to drop below 2000 or even 2500 rpm.
If, for instance, I'm in first gear and let off the
gas pedal, the car won't stall out, rather it will
just continue to pull because the revs won't drop
below 2000 rpm. If I take the car out of gear the
problem persists.
The position of the gas pedal seems to be normal when
I remove my foot. In other words, the problem does
not seem to be that it is getting stuck on something
like a floor mat.
This morning, I sat through a couple of stop lights
with the car out of gear, and the entire time the
engine maintained over 2000 rpm. Then, after driving
to a third light and taking the car out of gear, the
idle returned to normal.
As far as I can tell, the drum around which the
accelerator cable is wrapped seems to have freedom of
movement, but I haven't been able to observe it when
the problem is happening because I've been in traffic
each time.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Roger Hugh Dana
