[Peugeot-L] 405 Mi16 accessory belt tensioner

Ok, can this possibly be 'normal'? (see video.. 600 kb)

Looking at this tensioner, i can't visibly see anything 'wrong' that would cause this kind of slop. To me it looks like it was just manufactured with about 5 mm of axial play. what gives? There's actually quite a bit of slop in both directions. Does anybody have experience with these? please let me know if this is highly abnormal behavior because the new ones are... of course... unbelievably expensive for what they are and i dont want to buy one if i'm going to get a cleaner version of the same.
