Hello,
Our warm winter and my heated garage had lulled me into a false
sense of security, and then, after it had sat outside the office in
the single digits F for fourteen hours, I drove home and blew
several quarts of oil out the dipstick.
I cleaned most of it off with a spray bottle of a grease cutter and
then some water. Now, I started the thing up and it acted as if it
were running out of gas, and the check engine light came on. The
light eventually went out, the engine straightened itself out, and I
made two stops, with similar start up problems each time.
I pulled the code, and it was 52, something about the O2 sensor and
the enrichment program. I nevertheless cleaned the throttle plate
area, ensured that none of the hoses was clogged. Now the engine is
starting cold fine with a minor stumble in the idle which goes away,
but there are no driveability issues, and the car runs as well as a
fifteen year old Peugeot with 200K on the odo should.
Might the O2 sensor problem disappear, or should I change it as a
matter of course?
Thanks for any input on this one.
Bill
