[Peugeot-L] Re: '91 405S; Frozen Mayo and Negative Crankcase Ventilation

Bill (and Mike),

I experienced similar drivability problems in the cold back when I had my '89 405DL. It would drive very smoothly at 25-50mph, but at lower speeds and at WOT, it would stumble and die. What it turned out to be was icing in the fuel filter. From my understanding, the design of the 405 is such that any moisture in the fuel system can easily collect in the fuel filter. In cold temps, it can freeze, blocking fuel flow at anything other than a medium engine speed. I made it through my last winter with the 405 (before I moved to sunny CA) by adding a bottle of Heet gas line antifreeze with every fillup.
